What are the ongoing costs after purchasing a share?

The ongoing upkeep of your horse varies from month to month depending on what stage of the preparation your horse is at, e.g. spelling, pre-training or in full work. We generally recommend that our owners budget an average of approximately $37 a week ($162 per month) for a 2.5% share ($1,976 per year), $57 a week ($247 per month) for a 5% share ($2,964 per year), or $96 a week ($417 per month) for a 10% share ($5,004 per year), which also includes our Monthly Management Fee (MMF) of $77 (see question below). All bills are consolidated together into one simple statement which is clearly itemised for full transparency.

What is the Monthly Management Fee?

The Monthly Management Fee (MMF) is charged for our extensive level of service provided to our owners on a regular basis (see the last question below). The $77 fee is charged per owner regardless of how many shares are purchased.

Is my share insured?

Import Racing insures your share for the first 12 months (from purchase date) which is included in the initial share purchase price. We highly recommend that each owner renew their insurance after the first 12 months, however it is not compulsory. Insurance cover costs approximately 4% of your purchase price.

Can I acquire credit finance through IR?

Import Racing offers a payment plan of FOUR equal monthly installments. The first payment is due upon purchase, followed by three more payments each month thereafter.

Prize money?

All prize money is paid straight into your nominated bank account directly from Stakes Payments. A two-and-a- half (2.5) % success fee is deducted from the gross prize money won greater than $20,000. This will include the prize money for breeders’ bonuses or incentive scheme payments where applicable.

What benefits do I have as an owner?

As an owner you will have the benefit of participating in the naming of your horse (when applicable), your name will appear in the racebook, you will be entitled to race day members tickets, passes into the enclosure/mounting yard, one on ones with our leading trainers on race day, invitations to the trainer’s stable for an inspection day and functions, decisions with Import Racing and the trainer on scheduling movements and the horse’s career whilst racing and after racing (retirement).

Will my name appear in the race book as a registered owner?

All owners with shareholdings of 5% or larger are guaranteed to have their name listed in the race book as a registered owner. Owners with 2.5% shareholdings may be required to be formed into a syndicate as there are only 20 names permited in the race book.

How will I be updated on my horse's progress?

Import Racing takes great pride in our professional level of communication with our owners. Our owners receive regular updates via email whilst their horse is spelling, pre-training, training and of course racing. Our dedicated team of professionals are hands on and will provide extensive updates including photos, video footage, trainers reports (including audio recordings), and even the jockey's post-race comments, so that you know exactly where your horse is at every step of the way.
