It’s one of the biggest days on the racing calendar, but Saturday is shaping as particularly large for the Price and Kent Jnr team.
The stable has a trio of favourites in three feature races across two cities.
Gunstock is currently equal favourite for the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) on Saturday at Flemington, and after an impressive win last time out in the Group 3 Neds Classic at Caulfield, Michael Kent Jnr is full of confidence.
“He’s great naturally he’s trained on the right way, he was third up and I think he’s improved fitness wise,” Kent Jnr said.
“He’s looked amazing the whole prep, he’s been dappled up probably since September but he’s tightened up fitness-wise and I think he’s dying for 2500m.
“He’s such a dude, he won’t ever pull – he was half asleep in the mounting yard before the race last time.
“I think he’s an ideal Derby horse.”
It’s an ominous warning to Gunstock’s rivals, including stablemate Jungle Magnate, who Kent Jnr is confident will also run well in the Group 1 feature after placing in the Group 2 Vase at The Valley on Saturday.
“That was an amazing effort we actually had him in this campaign setting him for the Sandown Guineas which is a mile next month, and he quickly showed he was looking for more ground,” Kent Jnr said.
