We have raised the bar yet again with this sensational colt by out and out champion sire SAVABEEL. This colt is easily our most exciting purchase to date, and we are proud to be able to offer shares in him to you.
He is out of the stakes winning mare MAGIC DANCER, who was a talented juvenile that won the G3 Taranaki 2YO Classic. She is a daughter of the multiple black-type winner Dazzling Belle and comes from the family of the G3 Frank Packer Plate winner Kinane.
Magic Dancer has already produced the full-brother to our colt, this season’s impressive 2-year-old winner Noverre, bought at Karaka by Te Akau for $800,000. The stable has a big opinion of him, and he looks set to tackle bigger goals ahead. Watch his recent impressive maiden win below.
The colt is a medium sized, compact style of horse; one that matches his pedigree of speed and stamina. He looks to be a sprinter/miler both on type and through his pedigree, but he does also look to have some scope through his sire to possibly stretch out over further in time; perhaps over the coveted 2040m Cox Plate distance that his sire Savabeel won.
He looks a good chance of racing as a 2yo just like his sire Savabeel did, just like his dam Magic Dancer did, and more importantly, just like his full brother Noverre has recently done so in February.
Watch the below videos of the colt parading and hear from Mick Price and David Mourad:

The colt rates an A++ on TrueNicks and is bred on the same Savabeel-Galileo cross as Group winners HALL OF FAME (G1), and SHOWBEEL (G3), and of stakes placegetter BUTTER CHICKEN (G2SP). The remarkable fact regarding this statistic is that only 5 horses bred on that cross have raced so far, and ALL, YES ALL of them are winners, with two of them incredibly being stakes winners and one stakes placed, all mentioned above. That gives this cross and unheard of 40% stakes winners to runners strike rate! See pedigree page and TrueNicks further above.

Six-time Champion New Zealand sire - The sire of 23 Group One winners!
The very best racehorses with the very best pedigrees on occasions make the very best stallions. That recipe belongs to Savabeel, the magnificent son of all-conquering Zabeel, who has now won the Grosvenor Award (Champion NZ Sire) for six consecutive seasons. Additionally he has also won his fifth Centaine Award and has 112 stakes winners including 23 Group One winners. He also won four consecutive Dewar Awards (2015-2019), only to finish second to his Waikato Stud stallion-stablemate Ocean Park this year.
In the modern era, no New Zealand based stallion comes close to achieving the results of Savabeel. The Grosvenor Award is based on progeny earnings, the Dewar Award is based on combined Australian and New Zealand progeny earnings, and the Centaine Award is for combined progeny earnings worldwide.
To have captured those three stallion awards concurrently on 15 occasions out of the last 16 opportunities is testimony to the dominance of Savabeel – it says it all. Waikato Stud acknowledge the significant role played by Savabeel in elevating them to top ranking as the leading vendor at Karaka for seven straight years.
Savabeel’s exemplary record of achievement extends to a consistent 71 per cent winners to runners ratio and 10.7 per cent stakes winners to runners ratio – both stats achieved in the 2019/20 season. Not unlike his own sire Zabeel, Savabeel’s level of success has remained consistent if not elevated with maturity – 21 stakes race wins in the 2019/20 season.
Savabeel’s 23 Group One winners are Concert Hall, Cool Aza Beel, Probabeel, Nicoletta, Shillelagh, Savvy Coup, Sword Of Osman, Hasahalo, Embellish, Kawi, Lucia Valentina, Diademe, Costume, Brambles, Hall of Fame, Pasadena Girl, Sangster, Savaria, Scarlett Lady, Soriano, Sound Proposition, Amerelinha and Mo’Unga.
Savabeel on the track won the most prestigious weight-for-age race in Australasia – the W.S. Cox Plate.
From our Director
It’s been a long time coming for me to be able to secure a Savabeel colt.
And rightly so! He is an incredible stallion that keeps going from strength to
strength with each racing season. He produces multiple Group 1 winners year
in year out and produces stakes winners by the dozens each season. His
progeny has averaged well over the $200k mark at the sales for the last 6 years
in a row, and that is due to his progeny’s incredible achievements on the
racetrack. Just read the list of Group 1 winners noted further above.
For that reason, purchasing a Savabeel has eluded me up until now. I did have
to stretch my budget a little further than my usual comfort zone, but it was
certainly worth it, and this colt has been bought for well under value. His full
brother realised $800k in Karaka in 2020 and his breeder Waikato Stud were
very surprised this colt did not sell for much more, as was I, to my delight of
He’s an outstanding colt that ticked every box of mine. He’s very typical of what the sire throws and is in the same mould of all the good Savabeels out there. I have not been more excited by a purchase for Import Racing before and I hope you decide to take a share in him. I strongly feel he will be highly successful and add to the incredible honour role of top winners Savabeel has already produced.
He will be trained by Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr in Melbourne who are having an incredible season and continue to be in red hot form. They are currently sitting second on the Victorian Trainer’s Premiership. The training partnership keeps going from strength to strength with the team landing their first Group 1 winner in partnership, with Odeum taking out the Thousand Guineas, and just recently winning the $2million Inglis Millennium with Profiteer.
The colt passed all vet inspections as LOW RISK. He has clean x-rays and passed his scope. He also passed a clinical examination with flying colours, with no abnormal findings.
He will spell until the 2nd of May at Cavallo Park. He will then commence to be broken in on the 3rd of May with Gordon Pratt at Doran Park. The average monthly cost for a 2.5% share is $147, 5% is $216 and 10% is $347. All monthly supplier invoices are consolidated into one simple and easy bill for you to pay each month. All expenses are paid up until the 30th June 2021. Owners will take over the expenses from the 1st July 2021.
